| Santa Fe Restaurant Review: Santacafe restaurant is nationally known for its New American menu with a Santa Fe flair. SETTING - Santacafé appears to be an unassuming territorial-style building about two blocks north of the plaza. Don't let first impressions fool you. This is the historic Gallegos home dating back to the mid-1800's. As you enter, you'll find yourself in an beautiful courtyard where you can dine if you want, or you continue on into the main restaurant FOOD - This is some of the best that Santa Fe has to offer. Santa Fean magazine voted Santacafe (along with The Compound Restaurant) as the "Best Place to Splurge". It has been lauded in publications such as Gourmet, Bon Appetit, the New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal. You can check out the menu by clicking here. The menu changes seasonally, but several classics never change, such as their famous Crispy Calamari with tangy 4-Chile Dipping Sauce. Maybe the best calamari and sauce, ever. They also serve brunch on Saturday and Sunday. AMBIANCE - Santa Fe is elegantly casual, so nice jeans are never out of place, even at the upscale Santacafe. Being an historic home, the interior is composed of a number of rooms with white, contemporary walls of the minimalist persuasion -- a distinct change from the standard earth-tones in this town. There is a 2-foot square of glass embedded in the floor next to the bar where you can walk right over the home's old hand-dug, stone-lined well. The courtyard patio is popular and romantic. One time we brought my sister's big friendly golden retriever with us, and they not only allowed Miss Sutter to join us in the courtyard, but gave her a bowl of water. Great folks.
