Santa Fe Restaurant Review:

Cafe Pasqual
almost always has a line of people out the door.  Try it once, and you'll know why.

SETTING - A side street in downtown Santa Fe, just a block off the plaza.

FOOD - The food is fresh and organically-grown.  Dinner includes items such a Chile en
Nogada filled with Shitake, Portobello, and Field Mushrooms; Grilled Filet Mignon from the
Niman Ranch; Wild Thai Salmon with Lemongrass-Coconut Sauce and Scallion Cakes; and a
variety of exotic enchiladas including Organic Chicken Mole Enchiladas with Cilantro Rice and
Orange Jicama Salad.  Whoa!  Pasqual's restaurant also serves a well-known breakfast (more
like a Santa Fe brunch) until 3 p.m.  You can see the menus (and their admirable wine list) by
clicking
here.  The prices are moderate at lunch, higher at dinner.  Buy the cookbook if you
want.  Wine and beer - no bar.

AMBIANCE - Casual Southwestern.  I mean, it's got a turquoise painted screen door!   For
such a small place, it's a lively crowd.  No hushed tones in here.  There are maybe 10 two-top
and four-top tables, and in the center of the room is a large and popular "community table"
where you can meet people from all over the country (and probably the world).  Join in the
conversation.  I've dined with Congressmen (was that young blonde
really his wife?), beautiful
people, and some interesting every-day Joe's.  Never a dull moment at Cafe Pasqual.

RESERVATIONS - They don't take 'em.   During high season, get there early, or put your
name on the list.  If it's going to be 20 minutes, I just walk down the street and do a little
window-shopping.

BOTTOM LINE - Cafe Pasqual's is quintessential Santa Fe -- and a nationally-known gourmet
dining experience.
