Puerto Vallarta Restaurant Review:

Las Palomas
is an attractive, Gringo-friendly Mexican & Seafood restaurant downtown.  The
food is good and the margaritas are first class, and frankly, when I've got nothing to do and all
day to do it, I just enjoy hanging out here, doing some people watching.

SETTING - A breezy corner spot on the Malecon downtown.  The first floor is nice, and if
it's full or you want a better view of the beach, head up the stairs to the spacious, shady
second floor.   This restaurant has been around since 1979, and it's an old favorite.

FOOD - Omelets and Mexican breakfast items like Chilaquiles and Huevos Rancheros for
breakfast.  At lunch and dinner, they offer Mexican, seafood, chicken, hamburgers, and steaks
done six ways.  The Avocado Stuffed with Shrimp is a good appetizer.  I like the Carne Asada
con Rajas or the Filete a la Pimienta (peppered steak).  Frankly, you can't go wrong.  Extensive
selection of tequilas, beer, and liquors.  And in my search for the perfect margarita, I have
found that Las Palomas has an outstanding margarita on the rocks.  Bonus points awarded for
the huge 18 oz beer schooner size.

AMBIANCE - Comfortable Mexican restaurant, comfortable leather chairs, always busy but
never crowded.  When I'm with some "shoppers" on the Malecon, I ditch 'em and head for Las
Palomas to order a margarita so large, it almost takes two hands to lift it.  What a great place.

HOURS - Open from 8 a.m. to midnight or later.

BOTTOM LINE - Las Palomas is like an old friend.  Mexican comfort food and a fine place to
watch the world go by.  And on the Malecon, most of it will, eventually.
