Puerto Vallarta Restaurant Review:
Langostino's is moderately priced with good food and a great beach location.
SETTING - Just north of the pier at Los Muertos Beach downtown. You have your choice of
a table in their breezy, open air dining/bar area or on the beach under a thatched table
umbrella.
FOOD - Lots of seafood and plenty of gringo-friendly Mexican standards like nachos, fajitas,
barbecued shrimp, and even a rib eye steak. They serve tortilla soup, ceviche, fish tacos, and
a "Trio del Mar": shrimp, squid & scallops, breaded or sauteed with garlic or butter (photo
below). Try the Caldo Xochilt ("SO-sheelt"), a very large bowl of tasty chicken & rice soup
with avocados, onions, & cilantro ... I can testify that it goes especially well with a slight
hangover. They also serve breakfast.
AMBIANCE - Mexican beach bar atmosphere -- with good food. The beach tables under the
thatched palapas offer the primo sunset views.
DRINKS - Beer served in buckets; lots of fancy drinks for the ladies. In my ongoing search
for the perfect margarita, I determined that Langostino's has an exceptionally fine margarita
on the rocks. Bonus points awarded for the extra lime juice -- the Vitamin C prevents scurvy,
right? Bottoms up.
RESERVATIONS - Haha. Are you kidding?
BOTTOM LINE - Good food, good drinks, great views and people watching -- I could spend
the day at Langostino's.
