Puerto Vallarta Restaurant Review:
La Ronda is a neighborhood Mexican restaurant in scenic old Vallarta, a little off the beaten
path, but known to the local Gringos -- it's like their secret place.
SETTING - A quaint street in the old part of town, just a few blocks from Los Muertos beach.
FOOD - It's a short Mexican menu, and like many restaurants in P.V., the first items are
seafood. But they also have some carne asadas, enchiladas, chicken, etc. You might start with
their Tortilla Soup, "todo" as they say, piled high with onion, cheese, avocado, everything. Next,
the Chicken in a tangy Mole sauce is as good as any I've had, accompanied by some outstanding
black beans & rice (photo below). If you like garlic, try the fish Filete al Ajo. Entrees $8-10.
Tequilas, brandies, and mixed drinks available. Beer is about $1.50.
AMBIANCE - La Ronda is wonderfully cozy -- only half a dozen tables -- and cheerfully
decorated. It's family-run by some very warm and gracious owners, and members of the family
come and go, as do the friends, neighbors, and school children who drop in or linger on the
sidewalk for a chat.
BOTTOM LINE - When you're ready to get away from the beach and the well-known tourist
places, take a short walk back into the barrio -- the neighborhood -- and visit La Ronda. Watch
carefully for their small pink sign (below).
