La Dolce Vita
Italian on the Malecon
674 Diaz Ordaz,  Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Puerto Vallarta Restaurant Review:

You seldom see La Dolce Vita without a line outside the door.  Maybe at 3 in the afternoon.
This place is attracts a crowd.

SETTING - The heart of the Malecon downtown, facing the sea.  There is a constant stream
of foot traffic by the door.  If you're lucky and get a table by the window downstairs or the
balcony rail upstairs, you'll have some fine people watching and beautiful views of the bay.
Personally, I feel lucky to just get a table!

FOOD - Traditional Italian.  Good Carpaccio, bruschetta, and focaccia to start off.  A full
selection standard pastas such as fettuccine and spaghetti done a dozen different ways; even
some house-made pastas like tagliatelle and tortellini.  All prepared
al dente.  Veal saltimbocca,
steaks, chicken, seafood ... anything you could want.  Entrees $10-$15.  And a couple dozen
authentic pizzas, about $10.  I wish I could tell you more, but I
always  get the Spaghetti alla
Puttanesca, or maybe Aglia y Olio with Pepperocini.  I can't help it.  La Dolce Vita is like a very
good neighborhood Italian restaurant or trattoria.

AMBIANCE - If you don't have the window or balcony view, don't despair -- you'll feel like
you're in New York or Rome on a warm summer day.  It's a comfortable place to linger and
enjoy another glass of vino.  Also patronized by the local Mexican community who seem to be
well-known to the staff, judging by the hugs and kisses being exchanged.  Check out the photos
in the Gallery at their
web site.

BOTTOM LINE - Well-priced, well-prepared Italian food, with an outstanding location right in
the middle of the Malecon.
