Puerto Vallarta Restaurant Review:
El Calamar Adventurero is an inexpensive seafood joint, popular with Mexicanos and
knowledgeable Gringos alike. It's half restaurant, half taco stand.
SETTING - Old Vallarta, conveniently right across the street from the big neighborhood
grocery. If you need an American-style grocery store (just much smaller), this is the place.
(They also have an ATM near the cash registers.)
FOOD at El Calamar - This will be short & quick: Ceviches (heaped on laid-flat corn tortillas),
tacos (mostly seafood), quesadillas, shrimp cocktails, and hamburgers. It tastes even better
when you find out how little it costs (like maybe $1 per item). Quality food and cold beer, too!
They might take credit cards, but I seriously doubt it. But you can pay in coin.
AMBIANCE - "Go native" and grab a stool at the counter between a tourist and a local worker.
Watch the hustle and bustle in the open-air kitchen. Or there's a dining area with tables (at
the right in the photo above). This place is relaxed.
HOURS - Lunch and afternoon only, like 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
BOTTOM LINE - You don't have to spend a lot of money to enjoy a good meal in P.V. Try El
Calamar if you're in the neighborhood.
