Puerto Vallarta Restaurant Review:

Cuates y Cuetes
rocks.  It seems to be a favorite hangout of Gringo ex-patriots, bar flies, old
hippies, and other riff-raff who like good drinks, good sunsets, and good music.  The food is
decent, which is a bonus.

SETTING - Playa los Muertos, the beach in Old Town.

FOOD - Geez, do I have to review the food?  I can't remember eating here often, but then,
there are several things that are fuzzy about Cuates y Cuetes.  Okay ... they have "snacks"
(nachos & quesadillas & stuff).  They have Mahi-Mahi done 6 ways.  They have Shrimp done 8
ways, including butter sauce, costa azul style, garlic sauce, breaded, diablo, veracruz, and
aguachile.  They've got Fajitas and Tacos and Enchilads and even salads.  Breakfast, lunch, and
dinner here.  Oh ... did I mention the drinks???

DRINKS - In my ongoing search for the perfect margarita, I determined that Cuates y Cuetes
has an exceptionally fine margarita on the rocks.  Note to self:  Do not start search for
Perfect Margarita at Cuates y Cuetes during 2-for-1 all-day Margarita Happy Hour, which runs
from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.  (I didn't get far that day.)  Happy Hour on everything else is from 6-8,
which is sunset time.  And they've got great sunsets.

AMBIANCE - Painted wood tables, plastic chairs.  Packed at Happy Hour, which brings out a
lively crowd.  Decor consists of half-full Pacifico beer cases and steel trash cans (I love it).
They don't take credit cards, so bring Pesos or you'll be washing dishes, bubba.

MUSIC - They have live music nearly every night, typically Rhythm & Blues, jazz, or old time
rock'n'roll.  Most likely place in town to hear Santana.

BOTTOM LINE - Cuates y Cuetes.  It's a happenin' spot.  I think I remember that the food is
good, too.
