Dallas Restaurant Review:

The Oceanaire Seafood Room
is not cheap, but you get everything you pay for.  If you love seafood (and hopefully your boss is picking up the tab, or maybe you just want to impress), the Oceanaire is worth it.

SETTING - First, I rarely go to restaurants in hotels.  There have been only 3 exceptions in Dallas -- The Mansion restaurant, the French Room, and Dragonfly in Hotel ZaZa.  Well, now there are 4 with Oceanaire (in the Westin Galleria, Dallas North Tollway at I-635 LBJ).

FOOD -
A dozen kinds of oysters on the half shell.  25 fish and seafood dishes.  Steaks.  Everything I've had at Oceanaire was outstanding.  Entree prices range from the upper $20's to upper $30's.  On my most recent visit, I started with the Colossal Lump Blue Crab Cocktail (unbelievably huge chunks of sweet crab with a cocktail sauce on the side) followed by an entree of Wild Alaskan Halibut with Chinese Sausage & Green Onions resting on a very light soy broth.  Wow!  The menu is printed daily (depends on what's fresh that day).  You can see it by clicking here (I suggest that you turn down the sound first).  You can also read other reviews on their web site.

DRINKS – As you might expect at a place of this caliber, they have a worthy wine list and a full bar.

AMBIANCE - Oceanaire is high class and retro.  Like stepping back to the Frank Sinatra era.  Piped-in music to match.  The interior is art-deco and expensive, with curving lines and maybe even a little 1920's luxury cruise ship thing going on.  Attire ranges from nice casual to business.  Yes, it's in a hotel, but just toss the car keys to the valet, take the parking card to have it validated in the restaurant for free parking (the hotel will otherwise rip you for 10 bucks) and cover your eyes for the 40-foot walk from the hotel entrance to the restaurant door just inside the lobby.  Once you pass through that Oceanaire door, you'll be in another world.

BOTTOM LINE - Along with Cafe Pacific, Oceanaire serves the best in seafood in Dallas.
