Dallas Restaurant Review:

Dragonfly
restaurant is one of the stars of the Dallas dining scene.

SETTING  -  The luxurious Hotel ZaZa, just off McKinney Avenue in the Uptown area.  I am not a fan of restaurants in hotels as a rule, as they often lack in ambiance or food quality or both.  But Dragonfly is in a league of its own.   You can enter through the plush hotel lobby or you can look for the separate Dragonfly entrance nearby.  Believe it or not, the walk-up appeal is actually greater through the beautiful lobby.

FOOD  -  "New American".  The menu evolves.  Current top choices would include the Pan-Seared Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp or Kobe Beef Tenderloin Carpaccio with Peppercorns & Truffle Oil (maybe the best in town) to start off.  For entrees, the Lobster Ravioli with Herb-Roasted Mushrooms is gone (darn), but the Guinness Braised Short Ribs are wonderful (boneless, naturally).  You won't need a knife -- so tender it can be cut with fork or a business card..  They also have variouis steaks from "Z Grill", which I haven't tried yet.  I'm sure you won't be disappointed.  Appetizers $12-$14.  Entrees $26-$38.  Separate menu at their see-and-be-seen bar.

SERVICE  -  The wait staff will be delighted to give you the inside scoop on the menu.

WINES  -   A very nice wine list, mostly lesser-known labels, and good.  The many wines-by-the-glass are healthy pours, with prices to match.

AMBIANCE  -   The word is "opulent".  Blacks and golds, subtle leopard print carpet, Rorschach inkblot black & gold chairs.  The beautiful bar is busy.  Drink of the day:  champagne.  There is also a patio area with its own bar.  A mix of business types (casual or jacket) and beautiful people in "sensual chic".  Jeans are also seen, but they're very expensive jeans on very well-toned butts.

RESERVATIONS -  "Don't leave home without them."   This place stays busy until 11 p.m. nightly.

WEB SITE  -   For more information or to see their menus, click here.

BOTTOM LINE  -   The food and service are First Class.  Dragonfly is without a doubt one of the best restaurants in Dallas.
