| Dick's Last Resort Seafood, Ribs, etc. N. Houston Street @ Lamar Street, Dallas, Texas (new address) 214-747-0001 |
| Dick's Last Resort says on the menu, "Fancy schmancy restaurants with foreign names are a dime a dozen, but a joint with a big ol' bar, cold beer, good greezy grub, and a smart-ass bartender is hard to find." Yep, that's Dick's. SETTING - Old warehouse in the West End district of downtown Dallas. Within walking distance from American Airlines Center (well, a little over 1/4 mile). Dallas is the home of the original Dick's Last Resort. FOOD - It's what I would call top notch "bar food" . . . ribs, chicken, catfish, fried shrimp, crab, burgers, fries, etc. Also salads, appetizers, and even some higher-end stuff like salmon. DRINKS - Full bar, good drinks. About 40 beers, quite a few of them in 24 oz. or 32 oz bottles . . . the larger ones are served in buckets of ice. Also a handful of drinkable wines, plus Dom Perignon and Mad Dog 20/20. I suspect they sell more MD 20/20 than D.P. AMBIANCE - 80% French Quarter, 20% beach bar, 100% fun. Staff is chatty, prankish, and totally irreverent. Interior is turn-of-the-century rustic. Walls are covered with memorabilia and wacky signs. MUSIC - Live every night. RESERVATIONS - R U kidding??!! Downside? - Same as every West End destination: Expect to pay for parking. BOTTOM LINE - Dick's Last Resort is a great place to take friends, mother-in-laws, or visitors you don't want back. Or, it's a laid-back place to go if you just want a good time. |
