Dallas Restaurant Review:

Avanti Euro Bistro
is a restaurant with a night-spot flavor.  It serves fine food, it’s open late, and there’s live jazz every night.

SETTING  -  On Addison Circle, Addison’s answer to “Uptown”.  It looks a lot like the West Village area of Dallas – 4-5 story buildings with retail on the ground floor and apartments above.  Avanti has a prime location on the circle.

APPETIZERS  - A dozen or so, all very good.  My favorite is the Italian Ceviche – small shrimp, scallops, and calamari rings marinated in vodka and lime juice.   The Mazza plate is also popular, an assortment of interesting Middle Eastern appetizers large enough for 4.

FOOD  -  Once you get past the seafood and steaks, Avanti Euro Bistro’s menu takes on more of a Mediterranean flair – lamb, pastas, kabobs & veal – but without crossing the line into "ethnic".  Seafood items include Pan Seared Dover Sole and Crab Crusted Sea Bass.  There are several prime cuts of steak.  The four kabobs include Cornish Hen and Black Angus Filet Mignon.  The menu was updated recently, but the favorites remain.

AMBIANCE  -  A touch of Euro, a touch of the exotic.  The comfortable, upscale interior features black tablecloths, black chairs with leopard-print seats, and desert-colored walls.  There’s an attractive covered patio slightly above street level where you can dine open-air and watch the night life on Addison Circle.  Or of you just want a drink, you can sit at the popular U-shaped bar and be serenaded by the sound of cocktail shakers in action.  (My idea of heaven.)

HOURS  –  They serve until 10:30 on weekdays, midnight on weekends, and they remain open an hour or two after that for the night scene.  I’ve been there for dinner at 8:00 on a Friday night when the restaurant was half full, and the crowd didn’t start really arriving until after 9.

Downside?  -  Plan on using the valet for parking, unless you want to walk a block or so.  (Actually, it’s an interesting walk.)  This is an urban outpost in suburbia.

BOTTOM LINE  -  Avanti Euro Bistro has the perfect mix of good food and an upscale, “uptown” night scene.
