Dallas Restaurant Review:

There is more to Asian Mint restaurant than meets the eye.   In fact, as soon as it opened in
2005, the
Dallas Morning News  named it as one of the city's top new restaurants.

SETTING - A strip shopping center at North Central Expressway & Forest Lane.

FOOD - Asian Mint bills itself as “fusion”, and it is predominantly Thai but with other Asian
and western influences.  For appetizers, I like the Seaweed Salad (seriously, you've got to
try it -- it's shredded and lightly pickled) or Spicy Thai Tom Yum soup.  Sea Bass is served 3
ways, and my favorite is the very lightly breaded Krapao Crispy Seabass.  There are many
Thai noodle entrees like Pad Kee Mow.  Personally, I recommend the Kua Kai.  Prices are
$10-$17.  I often go on Monday or Tuesday nights when Sushi is only $1.  Oh yeah!  Asian Mint
also calls itself a “dessert bar”, with a dozen desserts (some Asian and exotic, some familiar)
and 8 or 10 espressos, cappuccinos, and other coffees.   You can visit their
web site and see
the menu (click one of the moving mint leaves).

WINE - Asian Mint has as full bar and a short but adequate wine list.   The iced tea is
outstanding.

AMBIANCE - The colors are snow white and cool mint green.  The exterior is unassuming,
and the interior is simplistic.   Asian Mint is very laid back and draws an eclectic crowd of all
ages and ethnicities.   Nikki, the owner, is youthful and outgoing, and this is her place. The
wait staff will welcome you like an old friend.  The restaurant even provides Wi-Fi.  You can
bring your laptop and nibble desserts, sip espresso, and hang out.

Downside? - Service can be unpredictable (I never know which dish will show up next – they
seem to deliver them as they're prepared).   If you care, tell them what you want first.  But
everything is served with a smile.

BOTTOM LINE - Don't be fooled by the building.  Asian Mint restaurant is cool, and
everyone I know likes the place.  I bet you will, too.
